SALMONELLA

Charecteristics:

·         Gram negative

·         Rod shaped

·         Lives in intestinal tract of warm blooded animal

·         Also live in cold blooded animals intestinal tract

·         Some species are worldwide

·         Some have adapted specifically host

Disease caused by salmonella:

Disease cause by Salmonella is known as Salmonellosis.

1.Enteric fever (typhoid):

Bacteria invade into blood stream.

2. Gastroenteritis :

Caused by food borne infection or intoxification.

Classification:

Classification of Salmonella is problematic due to its more then 2463 serotypes.

In central disease control classification Salmonella have basically two species.(Monica2000)

1-      Salmonella enteric

2-      Salmonella bongori

Salmonella entrica have further six sub species.
